Today's automotive power consumtion is 3KW: which will increase to 10KW in next 5 years and 12V batttary is unable to provide that much power. 48-12V bi-directional convertor provides high power requirement solution with two phases each capable of running 28A.  This solution allows bidirectional current control of both phases using a C2000 control stick and firmware OCP & OVP. The 48-12V bi-directional converter removes the voltage conditioner need and distributes loads more evenly. The 48V battary is used to power high torque motors and other high power components such as A/C compressors and EPS: while no change to 12V battery loads.

This reference design is an automotive: 400-W: phase-shifted full-bridge converter which generates the 12-V output from a 48-V car battery. The enhanced phaseshifted full-bridge controller implements programmable delays which ensure zero voltage switching (ZVS) over a wide range of operating conditions. The output implements synchronous rectification: which enables fast transient response and a high loop bandwidth. The system regulates 12 V at no load with less than 100 mW of standby power. Pseudo isolation is achieved through a transformer to prevent the 48-V battery from being shorted to the secondary side. The half-bridge gate drivers can withstand a maximum boot voltage of 120-V DC.

PMP7892 is an isolated active clamp forward converter capable of 42W output power. This design uses the LM5026 active clamp current-mode controller. Output voltage regulation is maintained using an LMV431 shunt regulator and opto-coupler feedback. Schottky rectifiers allow for holdup of 10ms using the stored charge of the output capacitors. Power management for the energy harvesting: energy buffering and back-up power is a key challenge in the fault indicator design. The TIDA-01385 introduces a circuit about harvesting energy from a current transformer for the system load of a fault indicator while storing the extra energy in a super capacitor. A primary Li/SOCl2 battery is used as back-up power to extend the fault indicator operating time after the power grid fails. With input current from 3mA to 2A: the reference design provides a stable 3.6V to system load within two seconds.
